Notes for Walter Merwin McKAGUE
During World War II, Walter joined the RCAF and served 4 years overseas attached to the RAF as a Radar Mechanic (#75 Wing, 60 Group--Fighter Command). Walter worked in the Winnipeg Post Office for many years, retiring in 1978.33

Walter was living in St. Vital in 1970.29 He was living in Winnipeg in 1998.34

"WALTER MCKAGUE
"Peacefully on February 23, 2002 at Victoria Hospital, Walter Mckague passed away at the age of 86 years. Walter was pre-deceased by his wife Doreen, in 1997; his brother Ernie Mckague, in 1998; and by his parents, Charles and Hettie Mckague. Left to cherish his memory are his children, son Ron (Sylvia) their children, Jason and Aaron, and daughter Susan; sister Marjorie Arthur; sister-in-law Billie Lucas; nieces, Joan, Kathy, Peggy; nephew Jim, as well as cousins and friends. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg where he attended Earl Grey and Kelvin schools. He met his beloved Doreen here and they married in 1952. He served overseas from 1941-1945 with RCAF attached to the RAF in England. Upon his return from duty he returned to the Canada Post Office for a career which spanned 37 years. Over the years Walter enjoyed gardening, family gatherings and remembering the "old times". He was a good friend and neighbour. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital especially Deb (unit 5), Wendy (observation), Faye, Gurwinder and Katie (unit 3), Ron Long, and Dusty (home care) for their care and support. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. also in Thomson Funeral Chapels with Pastor Tim Graff officiating. The service will terminate at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire a donation in memory of Walter may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg MB, R3C 0S6. Dad, you will be missed more than you will ever know. Although you are gone, we can feel your love that lives within us.
