"ALEXANDER McCREA, the fifth child and fourth son of Samuel McCrea, was born on March 24, 1784 near Stillwater, New York. At the age of nine, he moved with his family to their new home in Montague Township, across the Rideau River from the present Merrickville Ontario. ... Alexander McCrea moved to Wolford Township, settling on Lot No. 21 in the 3rd Concession, a few miles east of the present Eastons Corners, Ontario, where he built a large Georgian type home of red bricks made on the farm itself.
"Mr. McCrea was an honored and respected citizen of Wolford, taking a prominent part in enterprises calculated to foster and develop the best interests of the Municipality. He was a lifelong Liberal, and often spoke out against abuses and in favor of extending the power of the people.
"He died on December 23, 1856 on his large farm in Wolford, and his wife continued to live there until her death on December 26,1868."32 |
