Notes for James HENNESSY |
James was living in Murray at marriage.204
From Peter Hennessy's book The Hennessys of the Bay of Quinte, p. 56:
"John's son James married a girl named Almida. It is a good guess that she was a Giles, probably named after Almida Giles, sister of Elijah. James and Almida set up a home on one acre of land given to him by his father. James was then 23 years old. On Jan. 19, 1876 there was another 'mass' christening at St. George's: two children of James and Almida, John Adney born Aug 30, 1872 and Annis born Dec. 26, 1875; John Hennessy himself born Feb. 17, 1817 and three of his, William born May 13, 1859, Ann born June 29, 1861 and the youngest, Stephen Lincoln born June 8, 1866; and finally two daughters of Elijah and Sarah Elizabeth Giles, Margaret Ann born June 11, 1872 and Ida born April 26, 1875.
"At 32 years of age, James Hennessy suddenly made his will dated Feb. 18, 1880. Probably he too had the dread disease, consumption, for he died later that year. He gave to Almida their brick house with furnishings and ten acres of land; he entrusted his father and Elijah Giles with 50 acres of land for the support of the two children, John Addison and Annis, with the proviso that John A. would inherit it when he became an adult. James signed his will with his X, indicative that his father needed him on the farm when he was of school age."210 |
