"Dr. George I. Black, son of one of the oldest and most prominent families
"The funeral services of Dr. George Isaac Black, who died at Warkworth, Percy Twp, Northumberland Co. ON Canada Friday, July 6th were conducted from his late home on Sunday July 8th by Rev. H. F. Howard of Sterling, between whom and the deceased a most intimate friendship had existed. Dr. Black was in his thirty-eighth year and death was due to pernicious anemia, for which he had sought the best medical treatment procurable. He first practiced medicine in Warkworth, later coming to Brighton to succeed the late Dr. Webb. He was a splendid citizen - in religion Presbyterian and was prominently identified with the I.O.O.F. and Masonic fraternities.
"He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow and young daughter, Norma; his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Black; two brothers, Rev. J.A. Black, Mono Mills and James H. Black on the family homestead; four sisters, Mrs. W.J. Harper and Mrs. James Armstrong of Warkworth, Mrs. Alger, Tweed and Mrs. Cryderman, Castleton.
"Rev. Mr. Howard Sr. and Rev. Mr. McLeod of Brighton assisted at the funeral services which were under Masonic direction and the bearers were; Drs. Free and Bonnycastle of Campbellford, Drs. Rundle and Dunn of Brighton, Dr. Brown, Colborne and Dr. Armstrong of Warkworth.
"The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful and the attendance at the funeral was the largest that had ever gathered upon such an occasion in Warkworth."28
