Notes for James HAMILTON |
James was born in Ireland. "A rich and rather pompous widower." He lived in Belleville ON.26
His will, dated Mar. 14, 1898, leaves his estate (value $35,710.00) to his wife Nancy Jane. He left an allowance of $300 yearly to his son John D. Hamilton while unmarried. He also left his son "my gold watch and chain, to be given to him by my said executors at such time only as they shall think his mode of life to be such as to entitle him to such." One paragraph gives further instructions if his son married "to the satisfaction and with the consent" of the executors. Executors were James's brother and brother-in-law Alexander Moore Hamilton and Alexander Edward Ward Peterson.26
