Norman lived in McTaggart SK.10 He was granted land in western Canada at SE-32-9-15-W2.337 "Norman McKague came West with his father in the spring of 1899 at the age of 14. His father took up a homestead about five miles northeast of McTaggart (on NW-34-9-15). The rest of the family, his mother and brother Marshall, and two sisters, Nellie and Alma, followed later from their home at Sprucedale, Ontario. "Norman started homesteading on his own quarter section of land, just a mile west of his father's farm, in 1903. (SE-32-9-15) and remained in the same location until his passing in 1963. "Norman married Bessie Longstreet in Dec. 1913 (after many years of batching). She had come west the previous year, from Belfountain, Ontario, as she always wanted 'to see the west,' since a child. Mrs. McKague was deceased in 1956. "Their family consists of four children, ELVA the eldest, now Mrs. Edgar Bradley, lives in Guelph, Ontario and they have one daughter Marlene. JIM, ALBERT and NORA still reside and work the original family farm, which consists of one and a half sections. "Norman McKague served many years on the Actonvale School board from 1919 to 1922 and from 1925 to 1945."62 | ||||||||||||
