"On Tuesday, November 17, 1992, after a lengthy illness, James Fraser Arthur passed away at Grace Hospital at the age of 76 years. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret in 1932; his father James in 1964; his brother John in 1972 and infant brother Gordon in 1929. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Marjorie, daughter Joan and husband Roger Hunting, North Vancouver, grandchildren Jonathan and Shannon; daughter Kathleen, New Orleans, Louisiana; son James and wife Catherine, Winnipeg; sisters, Greta Bell, Falkirk, Scotland, Joyce Elphinstone, Calgary and sister-in-law Mabel Arthur, Toronto. He is also survived by his stepmother Mai Melanson, St. Norbert and a number of nieces and nephews. Fraser was born in Winnipeg on December 31, 1915. He attended Earl Grey and Kelvin High Schools. Following overseas service in the Second World War, he was employed by Revenue Canada Taxation, Income Tax Department, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed the out-of-doors, rock hunting, bird watching and his favorite hobby was nature photography. He was a member of Gordon-King Memorial Church and in later years, attended Crestview United Church. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 21,10:15 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. The memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. in the Gordon King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave., with Rev. Ron McIntosh and Mrs. Peggy Barrows officiating. The family wishes to invite friends to stay for a reception following the service. Flowers are gratefully declined and memorial donations in his name may be sent to Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr. Winnipeg, R3J 3M7 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Man. R3B 2H8. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit for their kind and compassionate care.
