Notes for Adelena SUDDABY |
"I began my education at the Hillhead School, which was about two miles away. In winter I remember climbing snowdrifts 12 to 15 feet high on the way to school. Then we moved to Arden for three years when Papa rented a farm just a mile off the ridge, from Mr. Boughton. While there I attended Ridge View School. School and I didn't get along too well so I went to work at housework. I worked for the Walter Wilsons, Dan McFadyens, Egbert Grovers, Chris Walkers and Fletcher Martins.
"On November 10, 1921 I married Charles Freed and lived in a lovely new home on his Mother's homestead half a mile south of my parents' home. Charles had taken over working his Mother's homestead when he was just a young lad.
"Alex Dreveski now owns this land and the house can be plainly seen from the #5 highway as it sits on a rise of land. There is a skylight on the roof and stairs leading up to it. This is a great place from which to view the countryside or to locate lost stock when a search through the bush would find them missing. We can usually hear the cow bell from up there.
"After the death of my husband in 1967, I lived for a short time in our home on Second Street in Neepawa and was one of the first residents to move into the Yellowhead Manor where I still live.
"I have five children, 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren."326 |
