Alma was a direct descendant of the poet John Greenleaf WHITTIER.711
"She had tuberculosis for years (but they treated her for kidney ailment) so they moved to California (date unknown). She died in the Olive View Sanitarium in Sylmar, CA, USA in her 40's, I think, when my mother (Alma's youngest child) was very young. Olive View was destroyed in the big 1971 earthquake here."711
"All the children of ALMA GREENLEAF had had tuberculosis as children, being so close to their mother. They all had scar tissue in their lungs that showed up later in life. Dorothy is the only child to have died of it, though. All the others died of cancer."711 |
