Notes for Edith Mary KNIGHT
Edith's mother died young, and at a young age she had to care for the house and her siblings until her father's remarriage. She left home "as soon as she could" after that. "It was my impression that the family were not as close as they might have been." (daughter Audrey) She then worked as a maid, including for the Orley Huycke family, whom she and her children later visited in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where they had moved.144 She moved west about 1900 to marry.84 For information about the pioneer life, see her husband's card.

She had very little education, and always had a dictionary beside her when she wrote a letter.144

"She was dedicated to her home, family and friends. If she could help someone out she would. She was a true pioneer woman." (grandson Dennis Leonard)143

"BURIED AT OGEMA
"OGEMA.--Mrs. Arthur E. McKague died in a Regina hospital after a brief illness and was buried in Ogema cemetery following services at the United church. Mrs. McKague was born in Ontario in 1877, came west in 1900 and in 1902 married Arthur McKague. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. J.J. Stillwell, Bredenbury; Mrs. Albert Leonard, Ogema; two sons, Frank, Regina, and Kenneth, at home; four brothers, Richard, Oliver and Henry in Ontario, and George in the armed forces."84
