Owen served as a volunteer in Butler's Rangers during the American Revolution, and with his father was with Major John Ross on the raid down the Mohawk River in October 1781, on which Captain Butler was killed.105 He was discharged from the army as a sergeant, 2nd Battalion, R.R. NY.115 His property was confiscated after the war. He settled in Prince Edward County in 1784 on leaving the army,105 and lived in Hallowell Township.114 He was active in the local militia, and eventually Colonel of the battalion.105 He is shown on the muster roll as a Field Officer of the 2nd Regiment, Prince Edward County, Ontario Militia 1822, along with James Young, 43.118 He was still alive in 1861.114 He has descendants in Ontario, Ohio, Oregon, and Idaho.105 |
