The family lived with Robert's brother George McKague and his family in a log house at Cherry Hill.110 On Jan 9, 1875 the brothers bought a farm together in Cramahe Twp (south half, Lot 27, Concession 9)30,6 from a Mr. Brintnell for $5500.6 Robert bought George out in 1879 for $2500.30 He mortgaged the farm in 1887 for $1200. In 1897, he mortgaged it to R. Walker for $1500. In 1908, he mortgaged it to Mary Walker for $1500.123 He was a poor manager.30 Robert was short and in later years somewhat portly. He had poor health, especially rheumatism, and used crutches for years. He was mostly bedridden for last few years of his life. He eventually became deaf.30 Until rural mail delivery came to Cramahe in 1914, Robert used to take his grandson Clarence and drive a buggy with a white horse named Charley to Castleton every second day to pick up the mail.30 His funeral card reads: "Died In Cramahe on Thursday, October 14th: 1920 Robert McKague Aged 84 years, 1 month, 9 days. The Funeral will leave his late residence at 1:30 p.m. Saturday October 16th, for the Cramahe Baptist Church, where services will be held. Interment in the Castleton Cemetery.
