Notes for Marcus MASSEY
Marcus took over the family farm, Aquadale, from his father and passed it on to his son Clarence.116 In 1896(?), according to Morganston Church records, Marcus sold land for $40 for the building of Morganston Church.168 "MASSEY--M'KAGUE. "Warkworth, Jan. 9. -- Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Massey, esteemed residents of Morganston, pleasantly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Christmas Day at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Lorne Darling. Of their family of seven children, four--three sons and one daughter--are living, and were present, and of thirteen grandchildren, ten were present. "Fifty-four years ago Mr. Massey moved with his parents from Baltimore, Ont., to Morganston, on the farm where he made his home for 38 years and where his eldest son now resides. Four years later he brought his bride, Miss Mary McKague of Baltimore, to the new home in Cramahe. Ever generous and sympathetic and with kindly, genial dispositions, Mr. and Mrs. Massey have many warm friends who join heartily in congratulations and good wishes. "During the entire happy Christmas evening the united family entertained themselves with games and conversation, but chiefly with music, in which various instruments figured, and by the singing of hymns and familiar songs, in which nearly all joined. Best of all, however, did the family enjoy their mother's singing of many sweet old songs still fresh in her memory since her girlhood days. "To add still more to this interesting Christmas Day was the fact that it was the 22nd anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Massey's eldest son, and the 21st birthday of his daughter, their eldest grandchild."115
