In 1857 Jacob and Jane were living in Peel Township, Wellington County, Ontario with Henry, Emily, Jacob, Jane and William.295
The 1867 Directory of Peel Township shows Jacob as a freeholder on Concession 12, Lot 3. He was still shown there in the 1871/72 Directory.293
Jacob's will names his wife Jane and his sons-in-law James W. Lowes and S. Calkins as executors. It mentions his daughters Jane and Emily, and sons Henry, Jacob Torrance and William Peter. It also mentions either a son John George or two sons, John and George--unclear in the E-mail.724 |

BIRTH: One source gives Jacob's parentage,292 the other his birthdate.293 He is shown as 57 in the 1871 census.295 His age at death is shown as 61.294 His year of birth is also given as 1814.290
CHILDREN: Sources differ on the number and identification of Jacob and Jane's children. One290 gives the following list and birth years: E. (ca 1841), S. (ca 1844), John (ca 1846), P. (ca 1848), Henry (ca 1850), Unknown (ca 1851), Emily (ca 1853), Jacob (1856), Jane (ca 1859) and William P. (1863). Another293 gives: John R. (ca 1846), George (ca 1848), Henry (ca 1850), Amy (ca 1853), Jacob Torrance (1855), Jane (ca 1859) and William Peter (1863).
I don't know how to reconcile this, so until I have more information I am leaving E. and S. as they are; I am identifying George with P. (possibly P. George or George P.?); and I am assuming Amy and Emily are the same person (name also given as Emey). |
