Notes for John McKAGUE | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John McKague brought his family from County Cavan, Ireland and moved to the Cherry Hill farm of William McKeage, who appears to have been his brother (see William's card).30 They immigrated from Shercock, Cullies, County Cavan in about 18239 30--the date is very uncertain. The boat they immigrated on burned in the Cobourg ON harbour and most of their possessions were lost. Ann fell in the water, but her brother William saved her and dragged her to shore by her hair.30 John and his family bought Cherry Hill Farm about 1825 from John's nephew John, son of William McKeage.6 30 They lived at Cherry Hill in a log cabin. They had brought a horn from Ireland which was used to call the family in from fields.30 The location of Cherry Hill Farm is Lot 3, Concession 1, Hamilton Township, Northumberland County ON.6 By 1848, John was extremely deaf & feeble.30 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
