Notes for Robert McKAGUE |
Robert lived in Toronto ON, where he had a store.2 He went to the US with his family about 1878.13 They settled at York, NE.
Two years later Samuel and Robert walked to Decatur County and homesteaded near Oberlin. The family moved there a couple of years later. All three girls taught school. The oldest girl was Minnie; the other one was Rachel. Theresa taught for 18 years, mostly in Decatur County. The family worked hard to get their invalid mother her dream home in Beaver Valley, but she died two months before they moved in in 1900. Robert died in 1902, with Samuel, Rachel and Theresa apparently still at home. Rachel died in 1924. Samuel died in 1928.13 |

QUESTIONS: Other sources say Robert lived in Kansas2 after leaving Canada in 1871.1 Could the family have gone to Kansas before going to Nebraska in 1878?
The Oberlin Press article does not mention Mary.13 Are Mary and Minnie possibly the same person, or did Mary die young? |
